Kate ElliottSpirit Gate: Book One of Crossroads

Two popular fantasy authors appearing together at Dark Carnival.

Melanie Rawn
Melanie Rawn received a B.A. in History from Scripps College in Claremont, California.  After two grad schools and various jobs (most of which she has mercifully forgotten), she became a full-time writer in 1987.  Her novels include six books in the "Dragon Prince" series, two in the "Exiles" series, and The Golden Key (with Jennifer Roberson and Kate Elliott).  Melanie lives on 2½  acres of Ponderosa pines, aspens, and weeds in Flagstaff, Arizona, with four cats, a nine-year-old BMW, and more books than she has courage to count.

Kate Elliott

Kate Elliott previously wrote the Crown of Stars fantasy series, the science- fictional Novels of the Jaran, and The Golden Key, a collaboration with Melanie Rawn and Jennifer Roberson. She has been a finalist for both the World Fantasy and the Nebula Awards.

Born in Iowa, she spent her childhood in rural Oregon outside the thriving metropolis of Junction City (population 2,500). No doubt the wholesome country environment and lack of exciting night life led her to the joys of lurid adventure fiction. After reading The Lord of the Rings in eighth grade, and failing after many attempts to find a working gateway into Middle Earth, she set her sights on writing novels set in fantastic landscapes and has never looked back or, for that matter, really grown up.

With her archaeologist spouse and three children, she has both traveled through and resided in several exotic locales, although currently she lives in Hawaii.
